Martha Medeiros has been transforming handmade wefts, stitch by stitch, into luxurious, sought-after lace gowns for a long time. She designs and makes, together with more than 400 women, organized into cooperatives by the Sao Francisco river and in Northeastern hinterland the most luxurious, genuinely Brazilian lace. “Something that does not exist any longer anywhere in the world,” says the designer, referring to the fact that handmade lace is a rarity in the technological world where we live.
“We have unique dresses, with handmade lace. The lace embroidered in high relief creates different textures and makes long gowns even more exclusive. Each piece takes about one year to be made.” This is one of the designer’s favorite themes: dealing with dreams, building stories for the brides. In addition to custom-made dresses, the bride line has a ready-to- wear line, with more inviting prices. The traditional French lace with high relief appliqués create a tridimensional texture, also custom-made according to the taste of each client. An outpouring of light, soft colors, such as off-white and beige tones, follows the traditional white, which is always present. The romantic quality comes with the corset shape and voluminous skirts, suggesting princesses. The contemporary mood comes with straight, clean shapes. There are also dresses embroidered with flowers, following the night collection of the brand, with flowers embroidered on the own dress, creating a true haute couture piece.
In addition to dresses for the bride, bridesmaid, bride’s mother and flower girl, the label has a very exclusive line for the home – Martha Medeiros Home, which started by chance when Pope Francis came to Brazil, and Martha was invited to develop all the bed linen for when Your Holiness stayed in Rio de Janeiro. The pieces, made of silver, acrylic glass and lace get the coolest brides dreaming: trays, placemats, sous-plats, petit-four serving bowls, candles and scent diffusers with a perfume exclusively developed for the brand, bear one of the icons of the brand: the Mandacaru flower, which is the cactus flower that blooms only a few days before the rain comes, announcing that good things are to come.
The whole bridal collection by designer Martha Medeiros can all be seen in a single location. The store is across from the Flagship store, on Melo Alves street, Jardins district.
